What's new in the Google search engine?

Author: Deepak

Google, the alternative name of Search, is presently enjoying the lead position with 65.6% share, whereas Yahoo and Bing reported 17.5% and 10.3% share in the November month. Recently, the company has been expanding beyond its search engine and released its Smartphone, softwares, netbook, web based apps and web browser. However, the company is also working on various up gradation in the search engine.

The company has released various new features in a demo event at the Computer History Museum. The new features restore people's faith in Google as a major innovator. Here, the feature discusses new technologies incorporated in the website.

Google Real-Time Search

Last month, the company had introduced real-time search integrated into search results pages. Now, users can find fresh search results pushed live to the search results page, with a pause button above that section of the page. The new search updates will be collected from the Web like live tweets, Yahoo Answers, MySpace updates, Facebook public profiles, news articles and Web pages. The new service runs on mobile devices too.

Google also said that technologies like personalization and localization will be used for future real-time search. Besides Google, Bing also featured the real-time search capability, which already integrates real-time Twitter and Facebook results. Unlike Google, Bing provides more real-time results on wider range of topics, but their utility have any value is left for you to decide.

Google Goggles

As the company continues to innovate something new for its search technology, it has expanded beyond browser-based text search to include voice and image searches. The new Google Goggles, an image-based search service, which permits users to present a picture and get web-based search results pulled from Google's 1 billion images.

Presently, the experimental service will be available only on Android-powered smartphones, but it will be available on Chrome web browser in future. However, the company has not included any facial recognition until privacy concerns are figured out.

Near Instant Voice Translation

Besides, pictures in Google Goggles, the search giant has announced a new feature through which users can search the web via voice and also offers near-instant translation. Meanwhile, the initial prototype can handle only English to Spanish language and handles the app through the cloud via your mobile phone. However, the company predicts to have
support for all the world's major languages by the end of 2010.

Location based search via Suggest

Google Suggest, which is the drop-down list of suggested keywords that appear under the search box as you type. But, now it is modified according to the location of the user, for example two different countries will show different results after typing any letters in the search box.

Near Me Now app

The new Near Me Now feature for mobile phones will provide you points of interest in the nearby geographic area after figuring out your location. For example, it can tell you about the nearest store with a product required and about its availability. It can also tell you about categories like restaurants or stores on the front page of your Android phones.

Windows Logo Testing

When you're installing a new piece of software on your computer, do you ever get an error message that says something about Windows Logo testing? The driver signing feature in Windows XP allows you to make sure that the drivers you are installing for any new program, device, etc. are actually compatible with Windows.

To do this, right click on the My Computer icon on your desktop and choose Properties. Click on the Hardware tab and then the Driver Signing button. You will see a little explanation of the Windows Logo testing at the top as well.

Next, you can choose how you want your computer to notify you about the testing. You can either have your computer ignore it and not notify you at all, you can choose to be warned with a prompt each time this comes into play or you can block it, which will tell your computer to never install an unsigned driver. Once you've made your choice, just check the button next to it and then click OK twice. From now on, your computer will obey your Windows Logo testing preferences and that makes everything just so much easier!

SBA GOVERNMENT WARNING

The U.S. Small Business Administration issued a scam alert today to small businesses, warning them not to respond to letters falsely claiming to have been sent by the SBA asking for bank account information in order to qualify them for federal tax rebates.

The fraudulent letters were sent out with what appears to be an SBA letterhead to small businesses across the country, advising recipients that they may be eligible for a tax rebate under the Economic Stimulus Act, and that SBA is assessing their eligibility for such a rebate. The letter asks the small business to provide the name of its bank and account number.

These letters have not been sent by or authorized by the SBA, and all small businesses are strongly advised not to respond to them.

FRAUD

Subscriber fraud is simply an offshoot of identity theft.

Someone steals your personal details and opens a cell phone account in your name, racking up huge bills that may land in your mailbox.

Stolen or lost phones

In the wrong hands they can be used to make unauthorized calls -- one recent victim faced a ,000 bill. They can also get your personal and contact details you may have stored in them.

Loss of your phone can be just a prelude for costly identity theft. If you do store personal information, make sure your cell phone is password protected.

Eavesdropping

Remember they can listen in to your calls and download your phone usage records. They can even track your phone to know where you are or where you have been at a particular time. Perfectly legal software can be secretly installed on someone else's cell phone, then the crook -- or concerned person can dial in and snoop.

They can listen to your phone calls, download copies of text messages and numbers dialled, or even just silently activate the phone and use its microphone to monitor any nearby sounds or conversations.  Keep your cell phone password protected and don't leave it laying around where some one can get at it.

Be on the safe side, always switch the phone fully off so it can't be activated when confidentiality could be compromised.

Never throw away ATM receipts, credit statements, credit cards, or bank statements.

Never give your credit card number over the telephone unless you make the call.

Reconcile your bank account monthly and notify your bank of discrepancies immediately.

Keep a list of telephone numbers to call to report the loss or theft of your wallet, credit cards, etc.

Report unauthorized financial transactions to your bank, credit card Company, and the police as soon as you detect them.

Review a copy of your credit report at least once each year. Notify the credit bureau in writing of any questionable entries and follow through until they are explained or removed.

If your identity has been assumed, ask the credit bureau to print a statement to that effect in your credit report.

If you know of anyone who receives mail from credit card companies or banks in the names of others, report it to local or federal law enforcement authorities.

New Internet Attack Via Parking Tickets!

Here is a new attack that just popped up on the Web.  Would you believe... parking tickets?  Huh?  How does that work?

The crook puts yellow fliers on cars, explaining that the cars had been ticketed for a violation.  The flier lists a Web site where pictures of the violation are available.

But to see the pictures, you first have to download a toolbar.  If you do, your computer will be infected with a Trojan called Undo, or Modder.

The Trojan throws pop-ups at you, claiming your PC is infected (which, ironically, it is).  It urges you to buy the fake antivirus program "Antivirus 360" to remove the infection.

The crooks are endlessly inventive, so be on guard for anything unusual, peculiar or bizarre.  Too bad these guys don't turn their efforts to more honest endeavours.  They could probably make a nice living.

Quick Way To Make 0,ooo

Microsoft, Symantec and other shave put up this money to anyone that can nail the guys behind the Conflicker - Downadu worm.  The worm has infected some 10 million PCs so far, and fear is there is more to come. Every day, the worm phones home for instructions to more than 250 servers around the world.

If one day the worm is instructed to download malware, it could create a large problem.  Researchers are focusing on this daily update feature, trying to disrupt and thus disable the worm.

Keep all your security programs up to date.  Run an antivirus scan every day.  Be careful where you surf, and think before you click, please.

USER FRIENDLY

Have you tried to join a freebie giveaway that requires you to have a User account?  Really frustrating when you try a dozen names, all taken, even when you try, "this is insane" and find it is taken too.

Google And Microsoft Enter Translation Wars

Author: Today Translations

In conclusion the different translation engines had different results to one another and none were completely accurate. Each translation has its peculiarities, certainly, and this comparison isn't intended to show that one machine translation service is better. What this demonstrates is that if you need something translated and you want it to be accurate and professional, you would be much wiser using a specialist translation agency.
To get a better understanding of the different translations machines research was carried out on Bing Translator, Google Translate and Yahoo's Babel Fish. The same phrase was typed into each machine and the results were analysed for accuracy.
There are however a couple of factors which will prevent anyone ever achieving the perfect online translation machine. The first and most important point which will remain part of language forever and what makes it so special is that it is constantly changing and evolving, as is the way we use language. Another key factor is that the smallest mistake can make the biggest difference. Grammar is the organisation of words and if the grammar is wrong the words don't make sense.
These six different languages will make the organisation of the UN hard enough, but there are still so many languages out there. Perhaps it would be best if there was a machine on the internet that could translate any document from one language to another, which brings us back to the raging virtual battlefield. Google, Microsoft and Yahoo are all competing for that coveted title, best online translation machine.
Have you ever considered the difficulty language can play in the world of business and politics? Consider the United Nations for a moment and the cost of translators and interpreters. If the United Nations wants to send all 196 of its members a memo it would take an age to do it each countries native language. As a result the six official languages of the United Nations, used in intergovernmental meetings and documents, are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish. The United Nations Editorial Manual states that the standard for English language documents is British usage and Oxford spelling, the Chinese writing standard is Simplified Chinese.
Google and Microsoft are arguably two of the biggest companies in the world and they make money with our time and clicking mice. The price we as users pay is to have to put up with a few adverts on your screen, which is a small inconvenience for the vast majority of people, who are for the most part quite apathetic. The most important thing users want is a good service and for it to be free.
Right now there is a titanic battle occurring, but not over land, politics, religion or money. In the 21st century two of the world's largest and most influential companies are going toe to toe. It has often been said in the past 'to the victor goes the spoils'. The winner of this battle will win something that may seem like nothing but has become increasingly important in recent years, our time and eyes.

Google Chrome Auto-Translation Could Boost Website Optimisation

Author: Mediarun Search

Google's launch of an automatic translation service to work alongside its Chrome web browser could prove useful for companies looking to boost their website optimisation through organic search.

The new service offers instant translation of web pages, allowing Chrome users to translate a site without any external tools, such as extensions or plug-ins.

Sam Tilston, Search engine optimisation specialist and marketing director at Memorybits.co.uk, said those involved in search engine marketing could harness auto-translation to gain exposure in growing markets such as China.

But is it still worth adding foreign meta tags to try and grab local language search engines now that Google Chrome can handle translation itself?

To ensure that pages of a website are appearing in foreign language search engines, Mr Tilston recommends that there should be some element of that language on the page.

"That does not mean in the meta data, but more along the lines of foreign language within the text of the page, perhaps foreign keywords," he explained.

Mr Tilston added that he believed auto-translation would become in big trend for website optimisation.

However, he said that website optimisation remained important as it was still necessary for sites to be found by foreign users in order to be translated.

And Mr Tilson warned that while auto-translation could potentially mean bigger audiences, ecommerce sites will have to consider whether they want their pages to be available to overseas visitors who ultimately may be unable to make a purchase.

According to Internet World Statistics, English speakers are the largest group on the web with 478 million users. This is followed by Chinese speakers (384 million) and Spanish speakers (137 million).

Spanish Memorization Using Link-word Technique

Author: Shareen Aguilar

In learning new languages, memorization always is the main ingredient in mastering words and constructing an entire sentence. There may be a lot of drawbacks how to flawlessly do this especially if you're new to learning foreign languages. Fortunately, for eager beavers, there are techniques that you can use which can benefit you and your time while you learn the language.

A popular learning language technique which also complements your memorization skills is called the Linkword technique. In enhancing your memory, creativity and imagination are two big factors that lead to successful memorization. This is also true and helpful in learning Spanish language and other foreign languages as well. The rule is not to limit your imagination to anything too reserve, normal and formal. It has been proven that the human brain works like a fire truck. Whenever there is a fire, it responds quickly by alerting its entire system (and the neighborhood) using the siren.

The same thing works with Linkword method. Our brain responds to something more than the ordinary. So, the funnier and weirder a situation is, the quicker our brain responds to absorbing it. An example would be the word prize in English and premio in Spanish.

Let's take a look at the next sentence as an example. Try to imagine a car winning a sack race. The car receives a premium sack trophy as its prize. It can never get anymore easier than that. When you learn to accustom yourself with Linkword system, learning Spanish and other languages would become a treat instead of a chore.

To master more Spanish words, check on this link http://learn-spanish-program.com and learn how easy it is to use.

Italian Translation Google

Author: Casey Gentles

Italian Translation Google

If you're determined to learn Italian from a beginner level, please read on, here is some of my experience I want to share and I think you'll find it useful.

There're simply two ways of learning a new language, following a teacher or self-learning with an online course. If you have time limitation or a tight budget, I strongly recommend you to choose an online course. The course I've been using is called Rocket Italian with which I've achieved very satisfying results.

Right after I worked with Rocket Italian, I started using Italian when ordering food, greeting friends and even talking in simple words very quickly and confidently. In the whole package at only 0, I find the 33 audio lessons most helpful. They're so delicately designed, that I was lead to penetrate the surface of learning a new language without usual difficulties and hassles. These 33 audios are purely conversationally based with one male and one female voices. The female one is by a native Italian called Maria, whose pronunciation is pleasant, crystal clear and easy to follow. I also noticed that the structure is quite smart because old words I learned from previous courses always reappear in latter ones which can effectively reinforce my memory and make me to revise. Every lesson is focusing on one topic which is extremely useful in daily life and I actually used a lot of sayings from a lesson "At the dinner table" at a Spanish friend's and impressed them all. Rocket Italian also provides a grammar and culture lesson attached with each audio lesson which I think especially useful for those who are determined to take it to an advanced level.

Get FREE 6-Day Italian Course!

The two games MegaAudio and MegaVocab also made the whole learning journey full of fun and entertaining. MegaAudio is to help you with understanding the spoken words by giving 6 pictures and an Italian word so that you can select one from the 6. MegaVocab has a database of about 1000 words. You need to select the Italian word from the 4 options to match the given picture. Remembering new words is always the most boring and difficult part in learning a new language. MegaVocab managed to relieve me from all of that.

Make sure you try the 6-day trial course before purchasing the product to find out whether this online program suits you, which from my perspective will, especially when you don't have any experience in Italian. To say the least, even if you're not entirely satisfied with this program, the Refunding Policy until 60 days' use can eliminate your last hesitation.

Best Online Translator - Contenders: Google, Bing & Yahoo

Author: Steve Greenwood

Google has raised its game by introducing translation software within Google Goggles. They announced this new feature on their Official Google Mobile Blog recently. Google Goggles is in a nut shell an application that allows you to take a photo of an unknown place or item, and will use it to compare with the information on the internet. It will then return to you all the related information of that unknown place or item. What Google is doing now is to enable you to take a photo of a Spanish text in the real world, and then show you the translated text (e.g. in English). Imagine the dilemma you faced when you are at a Polish restaurant with a Polish language-only menu. So, with this new function, you will be able to point your phone camera to the menu, and get the English translation back in seconds. How cool is that?

Why We Are So Frantically Looking For a Language Translation Solution?
All of us have longed for universal translators such as those seen in Star Trek. Most of us believe if we can understand each other perfectly, we will have lasting peace. Many scientists have been working on the technology to make it possible. Research has been going on for a long period of time, but we are not getting any closer. Recently, American language researchers predict that we will have a translation program that will understand what we say in the next 10 years. However, the program will only be capable of translating a specific field of subject such as tennis or driving directions. The technology is still based on statistics. What it means is that the program will compare what you have just said to the million entries in its database. From there, it can narrow down to identify what you really meant. So I guess the Star Trek universal translators will have to wait for a while longer.

The next question: Why is it so hard to create a technology that can translate perfectly? The answer lies, firstly, in how we use the language. The use of language is always changing. It is this constant evolution of language that makes it almost impossible to create such software. It remains possible if we can create an Artificial Intelligence that is on par with the human brain. Secondly, is the use of grammar. Words can be put together in millions of combinations. Different combinations also carry different meanings. That is the reason why you always get some sentences that make no sense from the internet translation software. However, when it comes to the single word translation, the software is absolutely spot-on. Therefore, the lesson here is that the translation software is a marvelous dictionary, but not at all great in interpreting sentences.

A Little Translation Experiment

In order to prove my point, I have devised a little test. I used the following sentence as the original text "This article is about how translation software is being used to transform our world in ways we cannot imagine."

Google Translate

Este artAculo trata sobre cA³mo el software de traducciA³n estA¡ siendo utilizado para transformar nuestro mundo en formas que no podemos imaginar.

Translates back into - "This article is about how the translation software is being used to transform our world in ways we can not imagine."

Bing Translator

Este artAculo es sobre cA³mo el software de traducciA³n se estA¡ utilizando para transformar nuestro mundo de maneras que podemos imaginar.

Translates back into - "This article is about how the translation software is being used to transform our world in ways that we can imagine."

Yahoo Babel Fish

Este artAculo estA¡ sobre cA³mo el software de la traducciA³n se estA¡ utilizando para transformar nuestro mundo de maneras que no podemos imaginarnos.

Translates back into - "This article is envelope how the software of the translation is being used to transform our world of ways that we cannot imagine to us."

Conclusion

Accordingly, you can see that Yahoo Babel Fish is seriously flawed in the grammar. Bing Translator is giving us the wrong and totally contradictory meaning. However, Google Translate did quite ok except a spelling error. So, who is the winner? I will let you decide whether you will entrust all of your business translations to the internet translation software.

Unfortunately, the solution that exists and has a proven track record is the human translator. This should be perfectly clear as the United Nation still employs thousands of professional translators to act as the bridge between nation leaders. If you want to get a translation done properly, humans will almost certainly be part of the equation.

What Are a Few Good Ways to Learn Spanish?

Author: Mike Darwin

What are the best ways to learn Spanish? If you live in Spain or in countries that use Spanish as their dialect, you will find that it will benefit you to learn the language. It is common to know a few words and phrases to help get you around but this will really limit you on a lot of things if there is a language barrier in between. You cannot expect the people to learn English, so it is best that you take the initiative to learn their language and look for ways to know it.

Bear in mind that there will be no best solution to learning a language. This really has to do with the time you have, your aptitude, and determination. One of these methods that we will lay out for you may work best, or a combination of one or all of them may suit you better.

You really have a lot of options to acquire knowledge of learning the language. One is that you can take lessons from a private tutor; this may be an effective solution for learning how to converse and that if you have immediate questions these can be addressed immediately. The drawback is that you have to commit a specific amount of time on a regular basis for you to get classes. You also have the option to have home study. Some opt to choose formal schooling so that it will force discipline and progress for achievement. Others are really dependent on time schedule, so they get tutorship at a specific place or at home.

There are also language exchanges through magazines or over the Internet. These practice more on conversations and must be followed with a book as a guide. This may be a weaker form of learning but it really depends on the degree you wish to achieve.

If you are in Spain, the local government helps by offering language learning for free. Try to check with each local city government so they can provide information on where to avail of these local language courses.

After learning, you sure would like to give it a test run with some friends. This will be a perfect opportunity to address some weak flows with inflection and grammar, and improve your ability to converse. This will also boost your confidence in learning a new language.

As final note, it is also more proper and polite to speak the local dialect. The locals will look up to you for this and respect you in a different way if you speak their language. So it is really advantageous to look for ways to learn Spanish if you plan to stay in that area longer.
