Important Courses for Learning Spanish

Author: Justin Sloan

There are two additional courses that I recommend. In fact, they are so effective that these, along with The Learnables, I credit with helping on my road to a high degree of spoken fluency. These courses are Pimsleur Spanish and Learning Spanish Like Crazy. Without this trio of courses I would not be where I am today linguistically living in Mexico for going on five years.

These are two of the most popular home study courses that, if you believe the press put out by the folks at Learning Spanish Like Crazy, are in competition with one another. I don't think that the case, however, you will hear all manner of references to Pimsleur as "out-dated" or "teaches vocabulary that is no longer used." Neither is true.

While the methodology the courses use is virtually the same, Pimsleur definitely and unashamedly teaches a vocabulary that is used in formal settings in Spanish speaking countries. I have found what I learned very useful in Mexico, where I live, in situations in which I am with more educated Mexicans. But, when I hit the streets, the stores, the parks, Pimsleur fails me. That's where Learning Spanish Like Crazy comes in. Its approach or "slant" is in attacking the more vernacular or common street Spanish, and I might add, does a very good job. I was floundering until I graduated from Pimsleur to Learning Spanish Like Crazy.

Pimsleur, I think, is the best one to begin with then graduate onto Learning Spanish Like Crazy.

You should do these two courses. You should do them after The Learnables and before entering into a formal class setting whether in your home country or going to a country for a study abroad stint.

Here's the science behind the courses:

Principle of Anticipation - This memory technique will lead you through the listening and repeating of the native speakers on the CD's in such a way that you will know the answer when the narrator asks you how to say something you worked on two or three minutes previously.

Graduated Interval Recall - This step is to build a "Speech Center" in your brain. You don't know you are doing it but soon you don't think about it, you just know what the Spanish word is.

Core Vocabulary - In both courses you develop the vocabulary you need to begin like a first grade native speaker.

Organic Learning - You will be learning the grammar and vocabulary much in the same way as you did as a child learning your native language. There will be no mechanical memorizing of anything and soon you will have the language ingrained into your being.

What needs to be pointed out here is that you should go through each of these courses, The Learnables, Pimsleur Spanish, and Learning Spanish Like Crazy multiple times. This will imitate the same thing which happened in the mastering of your native language-repetition- and will become True Immersion in the language.

Remember that True Immersion is: " Older learners who have been exposed to a translation system rather than an immersion system are suspicious of an immersion system because it is not widely used. Furthermore, they seek translation that keeps them in the English way of thinking, preventing the second language from developing independently from the first language. Immersion systems have as their goal the elimination of internal translation.

Furthermore, immersion systems provide the individual with authentic second language, enabling the person to achieve native-like fluency in the second language. For example, when we say the alarm clock went off (rather than on) we do not challenge the phrase as native speakers. When we say the house is on the river (rather than next to the river) we accept the phrase because we know its meaning. " (Harris Winitz, Ph.D. Language Development, K.C., Mo.)

Plane Travel with Kids

Author: Kirby Foley

Families nowadays prefer travelling by plane, as they find this a viable option after the fuel prices have skyrocketed. Air travel saves you from boredom and even reduces your tension while travelling with children. You can travel without any hassles by preparing yourself and following some simple tips, to make your flight a dream trip instead of a nightmare.

Plan your trip well ahead, as you can sometimes catch up with some good deals. Six months should be good time, as it gives you maximum time to shop online or under the guidance of a travel agent.

It is very easy nowadays to book online and travel agents are the best people to guide you through kid friendly flights. Some airlines provide activity packs and special meals for children. Some flights do not offer a choice of food and this makes traveling with kids very uncomfortable.

Before you finalize your tickets, be sure to check your layovers to avoid jet lag. You must also consider the arrival and departure time, as it is always best to air travel at night if you are travelling from east to west. This proves less tiring as the kids go off to sleep almost immediately. A stopover in another city provides one with the chance to take in the wonders of a new place before reaching your final destination.

While booking your seats be cautious, as it can be very embarrassing to try and bargain with your fellow passengers to exchange seats with you. If the airline doesn't assign you the requested seat numbers by the time you check in, then be sure to arrive early. You can also book a seat for child that is specially designed for children, as these seats are a combination of a booster and a car seat. This is more secure than lap belts. This way you and your child will have a comfortable journey.

Some airlines permit the passengers to get their boarding passes printed a day before the journey and you should take this opportunity, as it saves time and the airport delay.

Once the travel details are taken care of, you can think of packing for your journey. Nothing can be more disturbing than traveling with an overload of luggage. Travel light and make sure your baggage does not weigh more than what airlines allow. If possible, combine the kids' luggage with yours, to reduce the risk of losing things.

Only carry essential items like medication and passports in your carry-on bags. Backpacks are ideal for children and adults alike, since the offer a lot of space and you can keep your hands free. The smaller kids can have small backpacks of their own.

Involve kids while packing and let them pack their own things. Allow them to pack their favorite clothes along with games, books and toys. Crayons, coloring pads or a portable DVD player is an ideal way to keep them entertained during the flight. Don't forget to pack extra batteries for the electronic devices, as you may not be able to buy them at the airport.

While travelling with kids, be sure to take all the necessities like medication, clothes and you can carry books and crayons as surprise add-ons in your bag. Ensure that the children consume a lot of fluids, so that they do not get dehydrated and you should avoid giving them dry snacks. Always keep hand wipes ready to keep their faces and hands clean.

Travelling with kids, if planned well in advance can be very enjoyable and memorable.

Travel Packages to Tuscany

Author: Errol Blake

Arianna & Friends is a tourist incoming project that offers both accommodation in country houses in Tuscany, and tourist services such as wine and food tours, cooking classes, cultural tours, arts classes, outdoor activities.

The project originated by the desire to increase the tourism and the quality of the tourist services in two areas of Tuscany which are not a destination of the mass tourism, the area between Pisa and Volterra and the area around the medieval village of Vinci.

The owners of the accommodation facilities together with professional tour leaders, cooks, tour guides, chauffeurs, teachers and artists, farmers, restaurants owners, and many other "friends" work together to give to their guests and customers very personal and exclusive services.

Accommodation is available in rooms or fully equipped apartments in farm houses and villas, that still preserve the Tuscan country architecture and furniture.

The activities offered by Arianna & Friends are thought for visitors who want to experience as local people the culture and the traditions of the region. There can be only two people as well as families, and bigger groups of friends or colleagues. Activities are planned also for solo travellers.

Arianna & Friends organizes wine and food tours with the visit to
traditional family-run estates producing wine, olive oil, sausage, cheese, honey, marmalade, spelt, pasta. But also visits to modern companies such as big wineries, and chocolate factories are included in the programmes. The tours are led by a tour leader that accompanies the guests and guides them during the visits. At the end of the visit a tasting of the typical produce
is always offered.

The cultural tours are focused on destinations like small medieval villages, castles, local museums, ruins of ancient fortresses, handicrafts production such as ceramic and terracotta. During these tours guests can see how local
people live and what their history, usages and traditions are.

Cooking is another important activity offered by Arianna & Friends. Guests have at their disposal local cooks and interpreters and can learn a lot about Tuscan and Italian cookery. Lessons usually last 2 or 3 hours and after the preparation of the meal, the attendants can enjoy their dishes
with local wines. Everything take place in a familiar and informal atmosphere.

Also sport activities are offered by this project. Guests can choose among bike tours, horse riding, quad tours, trekking and gold programmes.

There is even the opportunity to take part in painting classes, classes of decoration of ceramic and decoupage, as well Italian language courses.

Arianna & Friends is able to customize and personalize any kind of vacation or holiday in the countryside and satisfy its guests' wishes.

Booking Your Vacation In Elba

Author: Judd Snell

The third largest island in the Tuscan Archipelago, Elba is one of the most beautiful and the most popular places in Italy. Known world wide for its rich history and its beautiful beaches, Elba is one of the most visited tourist spots in Italy. The island of Elba offers a unique mixture of quaint structures and modern amenities and a perfect symbiosis of nature and nightclubs that has made it irresistible for the millions of tourists who visit it every year. If you are also planning to spend your next vacation on one or more of the fifty beaches dotting the coastline of Elba then you have undoubtedly made a decision that will make you and your family immensely happy. However, it is extremely important that you make your vacation bookings on Elba in advance since finding accommodation during the peak summer months might prove to be a very un-enjoyable and unrewarding exercise. Almost every one who has ever been to Elba will advise you to book your accommodation in advance if you want your trip on Elba to be hassle and stress free. Given below are tips that will help you in making your vacation bookings in Elba.

- The main tourist season on Elba is between the months of May and September. If you are going to Elba during this time, then make sure to have booked your lodging in advance. Try to avoid going in May since this is the time when Italian summer vacations are on and in August, when it is vacation time in Germany.

- If you are not going during the peak season and are not staying at a hotel, then you can easily bargain to get better rates, which should range somewhere between fifty to seventy five per cent of the peak season rates.

- The best method of booking your vacation in Elba in advance is by getting online and finding out websites that offer details about accommodation in Elba. Most of these websites will give you details about the kind of amenities that different hotels will provide and many of them will also let you book your accommodation online. Book your vacation online only if you are sure to get a confirmatory email or call from the hotel that you are booking with.

- Another option for booking your accommodation in Elba is by getting the contact details of different hotels and villas through an online service and then personally calling up the hotel to book your vacation. If you are booking with a small establishment like a bed and breakfast or a family owned villa, then try to personally speak to the owner to wrangle a bargain.

- If you want to get a real feel of Tuscany while in Elba, then you can choose to stay at a place that is more personal and informal than a hotel like a family owned bed and breakfast or a villa. You can also stay at an agricultural tourist resort where you will get to stay amidst olive plantations or vineyards. Contact details of such establishments can also be easily found online.

Love To Hike? Join A Club!

Author: Jasper Sayer

Have you ever heard of a hiking club before?  While hiking clubs do have different meanings, a hiking club is often used to describe a group of individuals who regularly enjoy hiking, often together in groups.  If you are an avid hiker or if you just enjoy going hiking, you may want to think about joining a hiking club.

As it was previously mentioned, hiking clubs are often used to describe groups of individuals who have a love for hiking.  The majority of the time, you will find that hiking club members hike together. This is ideal for a number of different reasons. For one, hiking with someone that loves hiking just as much as you do can be fun and exciting.  It is also important to mention safety.  When you hike with multiple individuals, especially experienced hikers, you are less likely to have an accident or find yourself in a dangerous situation.

In addition to going on traditional hikes with each other, there are many hiking club members who travel to hiking trails or hiking parks that are not considered local.  Many times, these types of trips require camping or staying at a hotel.  One of the many reasons why these types of long distance hiking trips are done by hiking clubs is because the group members can split the cost of doing so. What does this mean for you?  It means that if you would like to take long distance hiking adventures, but you don't have any friends or family members who would like to go with you, you may want to think about joining a hiking club.

When examining all of the benefits of joining a hiking club, it is important to remember that not all hiking clubs are the same. There are some hiking clubs where members only meet up for hiking adventures, but then there are hiking clubs that do much more.  For instance, there are hiking clubs that have monthly or even weekly meetings. These meetings are often used to plan hiking trips, discuss the latest in hiking gear trends, and so forth. There are also hiking clubs that use fundraisers, like car washes or chicken barbeques, to pay for their hiking adventures. In all honesty, you will find that the benefits you are presented with will all depend on the hiking club that you choose to join.

Speaking of choosing a hiking club, when it comes to choosing a hiking club, there are a number of important factors that you should take into consideration. For example, you will find that many hiking clubs charge their members small monthly or yearly fees. You will want to find a hiking club that is easy to afford. You may also want to take your schedule into consideration as well.  Do you have time to attend all monthly or even the weekly meetings?  If your hiking club has scheduled meetings, you will want to attend them, not just attend the scheduled hiking adventures. This will help you grow comfortable with those that you will hike with and visa versa.

If you would like to join a hiking club, you may want to first try and see if there are any local hiking clubs in your area.  Depending on where you live or if there is a hiking trail or a hiking park nearby, there is a good chance that you may have a local hiking club or even a number of them to choose from. You can usually find information on local hiking clubs by using the internet or by asking those that you know for recommendations.  If you are still coming up empty handed, you may want to think about asking the staff at a local hiking park if they know of any local hiking clubs.

As you can see, hiking clubs are fun ways to share your love for hiking with others who feel the same way about it as you do.  Although there is a good chance that you will be able to find a hiking club to join, you can also always start your own, if you wish to do so.

How To Choose Your Preferred Bali Hotels

Author: Judd Snell

Bali is a wonderful island situated in Indonesia, the ultimate tourist destination in Asia, is worth a visit. Most people come to Bali for its beach, waves, sun, some come for business, some come for its undying art and culture, some come for its breathtaking landscapes and some for pure relaxation.

Choosing Bali for your holiday destination, of course you should select and decide your preferred Bali Hotel which would match your interests. There are myriad of accommodations to choose from in Bali, from five-star luxury hotels to budget accommodations.

Bali Hotels by locations: Accommodations by the sea (has beach front), in town and hotels are situated in countryside. Or Bali Hotels by interest (boutique hotels, villas, small hotels in traditional Balinese style bungalow and big or leading Bali Hotels).

Every place has its own attractions and features:
Sanur: Famed for its white sandy beach, sun rise, sea activities, close to other places of interest. Is for gracious living, peaceful and quiet. More "international" but somehow far less cosmopolitan than frenetic Kuta. There are so many excellent hotels here that you can scarcely go wrong.

Kuta: Frenetic, sometime chaotic, noisy, lots of hype, but a great playground. Originally what drew visitors to Kuta was the wide beach and the surf. It still has best sea front on the island. Kuta also famed for its shopping, dine and night lives. Though there are now many first-class hotels and home stays, caters best to the economy traveler who likes to be in the thick of things.

Legian & Seminyak: Lie at the north end of Kuta Beach strip. This is the place to stay if you want the best of both worlds. Conveniently located within 15 minutes from the center of Kuta, yet safely removed from the nerve-wrecking intensity and hype. The villages are perfect for extended vacations. There are several first-class hotels, a great number of intermediate-range bungalow, and inexpensive accommodations.

Nusa Dua & Tanjung Benoa: The area is rather isolated from the rest of Bali. Nusa Dua is providing a "total" hotel environment, everything you could possibly ask for is available on the premises. White sandy beach and a wide range of sea activities.

Jimbaran bay: Has nice and wide beach, good sunset (weather permitted), and close to Airport. There are two leading hotels, good villas and nice hotels in Balinese style bungalow.

Ubud & environs: The heart of arts and cultures of Bali. There are many small resorts deluxe and intermediate accommodations, most blend of typical Balinese and modern amenities. Situated either in town or in the countryside, most have wonderful gardens and views. Ubud is a paradise for shopping too.

The east: Offer more restful vacation.
Nusa Lembongan: Is a surfing, snorkeling and diving paradise. There are some excellent hotel resorts and some inexpensive hotels.
Balina beach: Buitan Village, this is spacious, gorgeous white sand beach, is one of the major scuba diving centers of Bali. There are a deluxe hotel and some intermediates and budget hotels.
Candi Dasa: The beach (at low tide, at high tide there IS no beach) because it has been eroded by the waves, but Candi Dasa offer restful vacation. There are first-class, intermediate and inexpensive hotels. You will be treated here with the utmost of graceful service.

The North:
Lovina beach: A northern beachfront alternative to Kuta and Sanur, this is a serene and infrequently visited vacation spot. Black sand beaches and quite waters nestles inside of extensive coral reefs distinguish this idyllic beach. Snorkeling is superb here and the reef is close enough that even children and beginner swimmers can feel comfortable here. There are first-class, intermediate and inexpensive hotels.

Western Beaches:
Up along this coast north of Kuta and Legian lies a stretch of black sand beach with a dangerous reef and heavy undertow, these beaches are not ideal for swimming and beginner surfers. At Canggu there are some luxury hotels. Yeh Gangga boast a small luxury resort Waka Gangga is facing the Indian Ocean. Tanah Lot boast a leading hotel Le Meridian and a world championship golf course with breathtaking view of famous Tanah Lot temple and sunset.

Western Interior:
Bedugul: This mountain resort is famous for its air, restful and serene. There are a number of places to stay here, from luxury hotels to budget accommodations (losmen).

The quickest and easiest way to select your preferred Bali Hotels is to go online and visit hotel reservation website. Do a search for the city or place (Indonesia, Bali, Hotels) you are traveling to and you will be presented with a list of available hotels in that area. There are also more information about hotel's and room's facilities. Most luxury hotel has excellent spa facilities.

The wide choice can be confusing - especially for first-time visitors - and it's sometimes difficult to select the right accommodation. So still go online and click travel. Choose your reputable travel agent (contact him by e-mail). Just let him know your personal needs and preferences that he can recommend those hotels he feel suit you best.

My immense thanks to you readers.

A Quick Guide To Selecting The Right Trails

Author: Jed Segal

Are you interested in going hiking?  Whether you would like spend one day hiking or five days, you will need to find a hiking park to visit and a hiking trial to hike.  Although you can choose to go on any hiking trial that you want, you may want to take the time to find and choose the best one. Those who take the time to examine a number of different hiking trials and handpick their favorite ones are more likely to have an enjoyable time.
Although it is nice to hear that you should take the time to find the perfect hiking trail, you may be wondering exactly how you can go about doing so. In all honesty, there are an unlimited number of different ways that you can go about finding the "perfect," hiking trail.  A few of the many approaches that you can take are outlined below.

One of the easiest ways that you can go about finding a great hiking trail to hike is by asking those that you know for recommendations.  Asking those that you know for recommendations is nice and easy because it limits the amount of research that you have to do yourself.  If you know of anyone, like a friend, family member, neighbor, or coworker, who enjoys hiking, you may want to see if they can recommend any good hiking trails to you.  You will want to try and find hiking trails that are well maintained, cheap to hike, as well safe.

Another way that you can go about finding a great hiking trail to hike is by contacting any of your local hiking trails or hiking parks.  If you are looking to hike locally, you should be able to find the contact information of local hiking trials or hiking parks by using your local phone book. By contacting some of your local hiking parks or hiking trails, you may be able to get information on the trials in question.  In addition to getting information over the phone, you may also be able to request that you have a few brochures, like maps, mailed to your home.  If you live close enough to the hiking trail or park that you would like more information on, you may want to think about stopping by to get the same information in person.

If you are interested in not hiking locally, but hiking a distance that is away from your home, you may be wondering how you can go about researching hiking trials or hiking parks.  Of course, you can use the internet and other resources, but you may want to think about waiting until you get to your destination. As previously mentioned, asking those that you know for recommendations is a great way to find a good hiking trail.  When you arrive at your destination, you may want to think about asking some local residents for hiking trail recommendations.

As previously stated, you can also use the internet to help you research local and non-local hiking trails, as well as hiking parks in general.  When it comes to using the internet, one of your best options is performing a standard internet search. When you perform a standard internet search, you will want to search with phrases like "hiking parks," or "hiking trails."  If you know where you would like to go hiking, like in what city or in what state, you may want to incorporate your destination into your search. This may help give you more tailored results.  Speaking of those results, you will likely be connected to websites that are referred to as hiking websites.  These websites often provide you with information on hiking, as well as information on popular hiking trails.

When performing a standard internet search, you may also come across the online websites of local hiking parks or hiking trials.  If you find those online websites, you will want to thoroughly examine them.  The internet is a great way to research hiking parks and hiking trails to find the one or ones that are best for you, your wants, as well as your needs.

How To Find The Perfect Campground

Author: Jerald Shapiro

Are you interested in going on a camping adventure? If you are, you will need to find a public campground to visit.  Public campgrounds are also commonly referred to as campground parks. If this is your first time going on a camping adventure, you may be wondering exactly how you can go about finding a campground park to camp at.  If you are, you will want to continue reading on.

When it comes to finding a campground park to camp at, you will find that you, literally, have an unlimited number of options to choose from.  One of those options involves using your local telephone book. Your local telephone book should have the name and contact information of local campground parks.  If you are looking to camp locally, this is a nice and easy way for to find and familiarize yourself with local campground parks.

In addition to using your local phone book, you may also want to ask those that you know for recommendations.  Since camping is a popular activity in the United States, there is a good chance that many of your friends or family members have gone camping before.  If they have, you may want to get information on the campground park that they visited, as well as a general overview of their camping adventure, like if they enjoyed it or not.

If you are looking for a campground that is local or even one that is a distance away from your home, you may want to think about using the internet.  The internet is a great way to find and familiarize yourself with campground parks.  One of the many ways that you can use the internet to your advantage is by using online resources like online phone books or online business directories.  These online resources allow you to find a particular business, like a campground park, by searching in a specific area.  Often times, you will get the name and the contact information of a campground park by using online business directories or online phone books.

In addition to using online business directories or online phone books to find a campground park to camp at, you can also use standard internet searches. When performing a standard internet search, you may want to think about searching with phrases like "campground parks," or just "campgrounds."  If you know where you would like to camp, city and state wise, you may want to think about incorporating that information into your standard internet search. Your standard internet search will likely connect you to the online websites of campground parks.

Speaking of the online websites of campground parks, these websites are a great way for you to familiarize yourself with the park or parks in question.  Many campground parks have detailed information on their online websites, like park maps, as well as pictures.  You may also find the cost of renting a campsite on their website.  It is also likely that you will come across a detailed list on onsite activities that you and your camping party may be able to participate in.

You can also find a campground park to camp at by keeping your eyes open at all times.  Some of the greatest campgrounds are discovered purely by accident. Whenever you are out driving, you may want to always be on the lookout for campground parks. Many of these parks are advertised in plain site.  You may want to think about stopping and requesting information or using the internet to research the park in question when you get home.

As outlined above, there are a number of different ways that you can go about finding a campground park to camp at.  As a reminder though, you will want to try and do more than just find a campground park.  You will want to make sure that you take the time to find and choose the one that is best for you and your camping party.

Hostelling, is it meant for you?

Author: Justin Skinner

You might think of hostelling as something that college students do while traveling through Europe for the summer.  However, hostelling is not just for the college crowd anymore, and now includes people of all ages and backgrounds.  If you are a traveler on a budget, staying at a hostel can be an adventure that will add to your travel experience.

Staying in a hostel will not be everyone's cup of tea, and many travelers would prefer to spend the money on a traditional hotel.  Hostel traveling is best suited to those traveling alone, or to young people traveling in groups.  Hostels are not really recommended for families traveling with young children.  In fact, many hostels do not accept children under a certain age.

Most hostels are set up like dormitory rooms, with several bunk beds arranged in the room, with anywhere from four to ten bunks per room.  Each traveler is assigned a specific bed upon check-in.

Nearly all of the hostels in the United States group their accommodations according to gender, with the female guests in one section of rooms and the male guests in another.  In multi-level hostels, males and females are often separated by floor.

It is not uncommon, however for European hostels (and those elsewhere around the world) to allow mixed genders to share a room.  Make sure to ask about the policy of the hostel before you check in.  I, as a woman traveling solo, have never encountered a problem with these arrangements, and I have stayed in hostels throughout Europe, including Rome, London and Amsterdam.  Some visitors might be surprised or offended by these sleeping arrangements.

The bathroom accommodations at hostels differ also, with some rooms containing a shared bathroom and shower, while other hostels will have shower and bathroom facilities located in the hallway.  If you would prefer not to share a bathroom with strangers, make sure you ask about the hostel's policy ahead of time.

More often now, reservations are becoming increasingly vital at hostels, especially during the summer months in popular cities.  It is now not at all unusual for hostels in popular tourist cities to be booked solid for months, where once it was common for travelers to be able drop by the hostel and expect to get a bed.

Price is by far the biggest appeal of staying at hostels.  The nightly rate for a hostel is usually no higher than or per night, with most costing even less.  With the average hotel room cost somewhere around 0 to 0 in many cities, it is easy to see why hostels are becoming such a popular alternative.

Another benefit of staying in a hostel is that the staff is extremely accommodating and knowledgeable about the local area.  Unlike many staff members of some luxury hotels, who travel in from the outlying areas and rarely see the city in which they work, hostel staff tend to live in the city, and have an personal knowledge of the local sites, including which attractions are can't miss and which ones aren't worth the trip.

Hostels also usually have access to discounts and coupons for local area attractions and restaurants, and they can provide information on the best restaurants and hangouts around.

While not everyone will find a hostel appealing, and the accommodation of a local hostel are simple at best, they can be wonderful options for lodging for the budget minded traveler.  After all, the goal of travel is to get out and see the world, and hostel travel lets you save money on lodging so that you can do just that.
